Be an Ump
West Jeff Baseball and JCJBL (Jefferson County Jr. Baseball League) are providing the opportunity for you to become a certified umpire. It is a paid position because after you complete training you will be offered a schedule of JCJBL and possibly USSSA games throughout our season.
JCJBL training is available and we at West Jeff will provide half the cost upon completion and certification. Further, we will pay for your equipment after you have umpired a minimum of 12 games for the Evergreen area.
Prospective JCJBL Umpires must be at least 15 years old by April 1st
of 2008. The 2008 rookie umpire training will begin Tues., January 22,
2008 at 7 p.m. at the JCJBL office, 7615 W. 38th Ave., Unit B125 in
Wheat Ridge.
The training will consist of classroom sessions every Tues. evening through February 19th as well as field clinics beginning Sunday afternoon, February 3rd, through March 2nd. If you successfully pass both the written and field mechanics class, we will offer you an independent contract for the 2008 season.
Rookie umpires start out at $30.00 per game. Veteran umpires make as much as $42.50 per game. No pre-registration for the class is necessary.
There will be an orientation meeting for all interested on Thursday, January 17th at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center (49th & Kipling) from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Cost of the training class is $100.00.
