FAQ 5-8 Year Olds

Instructional League Rules: 5 Year Old | 6 Year Old | 7 Year Old  | 8 Year Old

When is the deadline for registering 5 to 8 year olds?
It seems that that group has always registered later, but I think we should have them registered by February 15 to allow time for the league and coaches to get organized.

Can both girls and boys play in this league or do girls join a softball program?
Both boys and girls can play in this baseball program for as long as they want.  Non - competitive league is the 5-8 year old program  Competitive league at different levels of ability is the 9-14 year old program

What equipment will my child need to play baseball?
Your child will need a pair of cleats and a glove. It is also recommended to purchase a heart guard. A heart guard protects your child from hits to the chest. A bat is optional. The league provides bats to each coach.

Will my child be provided a uniform?
Each player will receive a shirt, ball cap and a pair of baseball pants. The uniform is to be used for game days.  This uniform is kept by the player at the end of the season. The cost of the uniform is a portion of the registration fee.

Should we volunteer for being a coach and be a part of the coaches meetings at the 5 to 8 year old level?
Anyone that is interested in coaching at any level should put in an application.

Who will coach my child's team? Can I become a coach?
All parents are encouraged to apply for a coaching position if you have knowledge of the game, can make a commitment to a team for approximately 10 to 12 weeks and help children learn and succeed. Please see the coaching section of this website for more details and expectations.

What are the rules for my child's age group?
This website contains a link to specific rules for each age group.  5 year old T-Ball, 6-7 year old coach pitch, 8 year old machine pitch.

Can my child play with his friends?
Generally yes, we do everything possible to place players with peers from their home school area. West Jeff does accommodate requests to the best of our ability.

What school areas make up the areas for teams?
Bergen Meadow Elementary
Wilmot Elementary
Marshdale Elementary
Indian Hills Elementary
West Jeff Elementary
Elk Creek Elementary
King Murphy Elementary
Ralston Elementary
Any player who is home schooled or attends a private school will generally play with children from the nearest public school your child would attend.

Where are practices and games held?
Practices are generally held at the school the team is affiliated with, i.e.: a Marshdale team will practice at Marshdale, Wilmot at Wilmot etc.  Games are played at the various elementary schools.  Specific schedules for games and practices are determined after registration closes.

How often do the teams practice?
5 year old teams will go with 2 practices a week and then 1 practice and 1 game after games start.  6-7 and 8 year old teams will generally do 2-3 practices a week and then go to 2 practices and a game a week after games start.

How long does the season run?
The season (practices) will start; weather permitting, in the middle of April.  Games will start the 1st Sunday in May and run every Sunday in May except for Mother's Day weekend games will be scheduled on that Saturday.  Games will change in June to the following: Saturdays and one week day game (weekday will vary)  Season will end by June 30th  8 year olds will have an end of season tournament the last weekend in June.

Can my child play on the same team with the same coach each year?
That is generally the case until the child turns 8 and the make up of the team changes to strictly 8 year olds.

Will my player's team and coaches stay the same when he/she turns 9 years old?
No, all players enter the tryouts and are drafted according to ability 1st and then other scenarios come into play after that to help form the teams.
