| Q. |
My child wants to
play with the same coach/team as last year. Are Tryouts required? |
|
A. |
Yes, all West Jeff
Baseball players are required to attend WJBB Tryouts. |
|
Q. |
What if we can't make
Tryouts? What if my child is sick that day? |
|
A. |
We can not guarantee
your child will be bracketed appropriately unless he/she attends
Tryouts. Please make every effort to attend Tryouts so your child
can be placed accurately. |
|
Q. |
What if my child
wants to try out for a "0" League Team? |
|
A. |
No WJBB Home Area
player will be referred to or placed on any "0" League team without
first attending WJBB Tryouts. |
|
Q. |
How much is
registration this year? |
|
A. |
West Jeff Baseball
Registration fee for age 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, Level III is
$185, for 8 and 8RC $130, and for age 5, 6, 7 the fee is $105. |
|
Q. |
What is the 5 year
old T-Ball practice schedule? |
|
A. |
It is up to the coach
when and how often to practice. Games are in the evenings during the
week and anytime on weekends. Games for 5-8 year olds are in the
evergreen-conifer area. |
|
Q. |
What is the start and end dates of the baseball for 5-8 year olds?
When is the deadline
for registering 5 to 8 year olds? |
|
A. |
It seems that that
group has always registered later, but I think we should have them
registered by February 15 to allow time for the league and coaches
to get organized. Anyone that is interested in coaching at any level
should put in an application. At the end of March teams are formed. Early April the coaches are notified and players contacted, schedules generated. Practice usually begins mid April. Games start in May and are on Sunday in the afternoon until soccer is over, then they on Saturday. There will be one weekday and one weekend game in June (2 games per week). Last weekend of June we hold an end of season tournament for 6, 7 & 8 yr olds. |
|
Q. |
We live in the
Conifer/Evergreen area and are interested in registering our 5-year
old son for T-Ball. Can you tell me how to sign him up and
when we should register? |
|
A. |
Go to our website, register and pay online, or send
a check in to the PO Box
listed on the registration form. Registration is due by mid March. |
|
Q. |
When will 5-8 year olds practice? |
|
A. |
Practice times are up to the coach but are usually held once a week and no more than twice a week. Practices begin about mid April and coaches are given one hour slots to practice, after 4:00 pm until dark. |
|
Q. |
How does one get on a team that practices near their school? Is that possible? |
|
A. |
Teams are generally formed by school/area. Practice fields are at the elementary fields but practice times are
requested by the coach and field availability has a lot to do with where you practice. All practices are on elementary
fields and we do try to put you close to your school. |
| Q. | Where can I get information about the different player levels? |
| A. | Here is the link to the "Level Expectations" document. |
| Q. | Where is the WJJBL waiver form? |
| A. | Here is the link to the Waiver form. |
| Q. | When will the Coaches meeting for 5-8 year olds be scheduled? |
| A. | We will hold the 5-8yr old coaches meeting March 7th. Rosters will be given to coaches and then they will call players. Practices will be held the second half of April and games will be in May and June ........weather permitting. |
| Q. | I have a son who was born May 29 2002 he is now 4 and will be 5 in May can he play t-ball?
I was wondering if there were any organizations out there that allow 4-year olds for T-ball? I see your website say for 5 yr olds and the recreation center doesn't know?? |
|
A. |
We have allowed children who are closer to 5 than 4 participate in the past. Go ahead and submit an application. |
| Q. | Our son will attend tryouts for the 0-1 level. If he is not placed on a team after tryouts, will his tryout / performance be given to the coaches for the 2-3 level or will he be required to return the following weekend for that tryout?
I was wondering if both of my sons needed to be at tryouts or just my older one. They have not played organized baseball before. |
|
A. |
Yes, we require that all players attend tryouts, from there they are selected through the draft process for a team. |
| Q. | Do we need to register online for tryouts if we already sent in payment and registration form for the season? |
|
A. |
No, they are one in the same registration. |
| Q. | My 9 year old son is signed up for spring ball (he'll be 10 then). Since he is already registered, will we automatically receive a time slot for tryouts or do I need to do something additional online? |
|
A. |
An email will be sent informing all as to the projected timing and flow of tryouts. |
| Q. | What if we can't make the tryout date? My son has played L1 for another league the past 2 years. We just moved to Evergreen this past summer. Can we get assigned to a L1 team without going to the tryout? |
| A. | We can't just randomly assign a player to a team. If you can't make tryouts then your son will be used to fill a teams roster based on need. It is essential, especially for a new player to attend tryouts. |
| Q. | My son is in 4th grade and is 9 years old. I attended the meeting this week and since he is going to be on a level 3 team (minor experience), I was told to come to the Feb 3rd tryouts. I will be out of town that weekend so he may not be able to make it. Should he come to the Jan 27th tryouts instead or should he just skip it since he is not going to be on a level 1 or 2 team? |
| A. | TBA |
| Q. | My son has played in West Jeff for approx 5 years. The last season he was coached by coach Bob and I expect he will be on the same team. He cannot attend either of the upcoming tryouts. Can you please advise of what the consequence of that will be or if any alternative is available. |
| A. | If you are satisfied with your son playing on a level three team, then he will be assigned a team regardless of whether he goes to tryouts or not. It would not hurt for him to attend the first tryout though, at least he will get the experience of going through them. |
| Q. | Does WJBB use umpires under the age of 15 for the 5 - 8 yr old league? |
| A. | Yes we do. We do our own umpires for the younger age kids. |
| Q. | My son has played in West Jeff for approx 5 years. The last season he was coached by coach Bob and I expect he will be on the same team. He cannot attend either of the upcoming tryouts. Can you please advise of what the consequence of that will be or if any alternative is available.
When do we have to choose if we are going to go into level 1 or stay in level 2? Do we have to decide by the tryouts? |
|
A. |
The decision has to do with whom are actually selected to be the level 1 or 2 coaches. A team can decide to move up if they want and that is something we will look at after tryouts and it is also something we have to submit to JCJBL for approval. |
| Q. | What happens next in terms of getting us registered and in the 8 year old Zero mix at JCJBL? Does West Jeff BB sign us up and handle that? Will we get a schedule sometime down the road? |
|
A. |
Yes, we submit you as an 8RC team and then JCJBL takes it from there with scheduling etc. |
| Q. | Will my boys be able to play on the same team again this year (one will be 8 but is a bit delayed the other will be 6 - can they both play on the 6 year old team?). I couldn't find when the season starts and end. |
|
A. |
The actual season is not determined yet, but you can pretty much figure April through June. Your boys should be able to play together, we will work on it. Submit your applications. |
| Q. | I have a five year old and a seven year old that would like to play. What days do the games usually fall on for those leagues? |
|
A. |
Games are generally on the weekends, occasionally during the week. Season starts in April. |
| Q. | We are new to Evergreen. How far into June does the regular schedule go? |
|
A. |
The regular season lasts until the end of June, if your son or daughter is on a team that continues on in tournament play it would last through the first week of July. |
| Q. | I have a 7 year old daughter, who wants to play baseball. Are the teams co-ed? When does the season start and end? What are the days and times of practices and game? |
|
A. |
The season starts in the beginning of April and finishes at the end of June. The days and times of practices are determined by the coach and the availability of fields. These will be determined after coaches and teams are selected. Teams are co-ed. |
| Q. | Our T-ball team from last year wants to stick together for coach-pitch. Should I ask them to write something on their registration form to indicate they want to be on the team? |
|
A. |
Yes, have your team request to stay together on their applications and we will take care of it. On the online form, indicate you are a "Returning" player, name the coach, and select "Yes" to the question "Does player want to remain with prior coach". |
| Q. | My son would like to be on the same baseball team as his friend from school. Is that possible? What do I put on his online registration if he can be on the same team? My son has never played baseball before. Is that a problem? What days and times are practices usually held as well or is that coach dependent/field availability dependent? |
|
A. |
Put on the registration the name of the coach (Previous coach) your son's friend played for and we will try to get him on that team. It is, of course, up to the coach to put him on his team. You can try contacting him to make sure he is indeed coaching again this year. Practice and game times are determined after our upcoming tryouts, coach and player selection. |
| Q. | We are new to Evergreen and I have a son that will be 12 in April. He is planning on attending the tryouts next weekend for the 0-1 level. If he is not placed on a team after this tryout, will his tryout / performance be given to the coaches for the 2-3 level or will he be required to return the following weekend for that tryout? |
|
A. |
We do require that any player who does not get selected from the 0-1 tryouts return for the following tryout. It is easier to compare players that way. Welcome to the league. |
| Q. | I was told that we could bring back 6 players, and that they would not have to go through the tryout process. From what was said at the meeting, it seems like only Level 0 coaches are allowed to protect and bring back any players. Unfortunately, I had passed on to some families wishing to play the news that their kids would be on our Level 1 team for sure and would not have to tryout.
Can you clarify the situations regarding our coaching status and the protected player/tryout situation for us? |
|
A. |
All coaches at any level can retain the 6 players, this has not changed. The part concerning coaches: very seldom will a coach returning not receive a team, it has always been policy to reserve decision on level until we see where a coaches own son places at tryouts and how that coach stacks up against another who might want the same level team. Don't worry about you having your team and level. |
| Q. | I was wondering about the amount of games that are played during a normal season? I have a 10 year old that has been playing in District 2 Rocky Mountain Little League and I'm looking for better coaching and more competition. Also would like to know if the games and tournaments are played in Jefferson County or if there is a lot more traveling involved. |
| A. | The average season consists of 16-18 games depending on how many teams are in your division. Games are generally played in Jefferson County, we do play as far away as Brighton and Louisville sometimes. Tournaments are scheduled by each coach and can be where ever the teams want to go.
Our tryouts for the upcoming season start this weekend for players wishing to play 0 or 1 level ball, all the info is or will be posted on the website. Welcome to our league, I think you will find we do play more competitive ball and have some fine coaches. Bob Kerr President WJBB |
